New release from the Brooklyn-based country/folk group. Summer Fruit is the lead single from their new album Ways of Escape. This is normally the sort of song that I’d pass by and let Jo or Ollie deal with but I’m feeling open minded today so here goes.

Great Lakes have been around since 1996 but this is their first release where Ben Crum features as the primary songwriter so it’ll be interesting to hear how the new album sounds. An acoustic piece that’s tinged with emotion throughout, as opposed to the more light-hearted feel of their previous work, it’s clear that the band have taken a different direction for their new LP. If Summer Fruit is anything to go by then this new approach is definitely working. More please.
